Insightful Mind Initiative at Miami Law

The Insightful Mind Initiative is a student organization founded at the University of Miami School of Law by a group of students interested in practicing and sharing contemplative practices, with a concentration on mindfulness practices.

The organization meets weekly at the law school for one hour during which participants enjoy a 20-minute sitting, either in silence or with quiet and relaxing background music. This period offers students a quiet space and opportunity to sit, reflect, relax, and explore any of a variety of contemplative practices.

The sitting period is followed by a 30 minute interactive discussion on the challenges and opportunities of the law school experience. This period begins with a short reading or audio recording of a leading figure in contemplative practices.

While law students are encouraged to join IMI (there are no dues) and become actively involved in its development as Council Members, each weekly meeting is open to all students and does not require any prior knowledge or experience with contemplative practices.

There is a short two-minute break between the beginning and concluding periods so that students may attend one or either.

Welcome to the Insightful Mind Initiative Website

“We offer a space where law students can gather to share, learn and practice mindfulness and develop skills to focus the mind and nurture the body so that we may flourish in a high stress career.”
